Transitional Kindergarten / Kindergarten

The Kindergarten team uses a variety of teaching styles to engage all students in the process of learning. A visitor to a Kindergarten classroom could expect to see small-group center activities, whole-group learning, hands-on learning, and a great deal of reading and writing. The team uses a balanced-literacy approach to teach reading, in that students learn to read through a variety of instructional methods. Since the average attention span of a kindergartner generally does not exceed 15 minutes, there are many fun transition activities that lead into the next subject area.

TFA kindergartners have many opportunities to grow in areas such as Music, Art, Physical Education and Library Skills. These “special area” classes are incorporated into the weekly schedule, and many of them provide an opportunity for parents or grandparents to be involved in the classroom.
