If you ignore the fact that they were delayed in returning to Lower School for almost an hour due to the weather (we are very committed to the safety of our students), 2nd-4th grade chapel was fabulous last week. I first want to commend the students for exemplary behavior. Both the teachers and I were extremely proud of all of them.

Now back to chapel! Mrs. Combs’ 4th grade class did a fantastic job of leading worship and presenting a skit about the body of Christ. Their skit focused on how as Christians, we are the hands, feet, ears, and heart of Christ and they presented it in a way that the students could really relate.

After the chapel presentation, the students had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Jack Fiscus speak about the importance of what we allow into our hearts and minds. He did a great object lesson using basketballs. They looked identical on the outside but when he bounced them, they were clearly different on the inside. One was filled with just air while the other had some water inside that impacted the way it bounced. What a great concrete way to show the impact of what is on the inside. He then used a Heart Meter (actually a scale) and focused on how our friends, the things we read, the shows we watch, and even internet and music can influence if we look more like Jesus or more like the world. The overall message for the students was that the heart matters and we must protect it.

Disney Dreamers and Doers Program
Since 1984, Walt Disney World Resort has collaborated with local school districts to identify and recognize young people who have demonstrated excellence in their schools and communities. Asa Harmening was chosen as TFA’s 5th grade representative for the Disney Dreamers and Doers Program. The contest was open to all 5th grade students. Students were asked to write a paragraph about something they have done at home, school, or in the community that has inspired others and makes our world a better place. Thank you to all of the students who participated and congratulations to Asa!

Royal Academy of the Arts and Enrichment-After School Dance Program
The TFA after-school Dance Program, directed by Leslie Scott, teaches girls to use the gift of dance to glorify God. The program begins in K4 with Ballet/Tap techniques, moving toward HipHop/lyrical in 4th and 5th grades. After 5th grade, dancers have the opportunity to audition for the Royal Sapphires, TFA’s official Dance Team!

Mrs. Scott focuses on how to use dance as praise and worship, while teaching proper technique. Mrs. Scott emphasizes the importance of being a spiritual vessel that God moves through, not a performer.

The Royal Academy of the Arts and Enrichment – After School Dance Program had their annual recital last Sunday. This year’s event was more than a recital, it was a time of Worship!

4th Quarter AR Deadline
The 4th quarter AR deadline is Friday, May 15th.

****For students hoping to achieve the AR 200% club for the entire 2014-2015 school year,
the last day to take AR tests is Monday, May 11th.*****

Any tests taken between May 12th and May 15th will still count toward their 4th quarter goal, but to allow time to compile the necessary information for presenting the 200% Club awards at the LS Awards Chapel on May 14th, we had to set an earlier cutoff date solely for the purposes of the 200% club.

Hug a Safety Patrol
Many of our fourth graders serve faithfully as safety patrols during our morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. These students work to help keep the Lower School students safe each day. They are the first point of contact each day for many of our younger students as they escort them to class. As we come to the end of the school year, we want to make sure we are both appreciating and respecting their hard work and service. It’s not an easy job

Our safety patrols and library aides will be celebrating their year of hard work with a fun day at Wet-and-Wild on Wednesday, May 6th.

National Day of Prayer
The 2015 National Day of Prayer is May 7! Students will lead prayer before every class for specific topics relating to current events in the world.

LS Evening at the Arts – Save the Date!
The Lower School Evening at the Arts will present the musical, The Music Man, Jr. (presented by 4th-6th grade students) and a K-Prep-6th grade Art Show on May 8th and 9th in the Natalie Thomas Gymnasium at 7:00PM. Mark your calendars, today as you won’t want to miss one of these talent-packed evenings!

Rising Grade Level Parent Meetings
Parents of students in grades K-5 are invited to attend an informative session on grade level expectations for the next year. Teachers will focus on benchmark learning skills critical for success for the new school year. Every parent should plan to attend. We will have scheduled one session in the afternoon for each grade level. These are rising grade level meetings, so look for the grade your child will be in next year. Meetings will be held in a grade level classroom. Students of parents attending the afternoon session need to be in the supervision of an adult or in the After School Program (normal charges will apply for students who attend the After School Program whilst parents attend the afternoon session).

Classroom Placement
The TFA Faculty and staff are committed to providing the best educational experience for each child. The Principal and Assistant Principal work with teacher(s) to prayerfully consider the needs of the student when making final decisions for student placement. Class placement decisions are based on many factors which include, but are not limited to, the student’s individual learning styles as well as emotional, social, and academic needs. Classroom structure and current teacher recommendations are also closely considered.

Faculty and staff may not be prepared—at this time—to share information regarding their assignment for the next year since we are currently in the process of finalizing teacher grade level assignments. However, God continues to bless us with a strong Lower School team. Please continue to keep our faculty and staff in your prayers throughout the summer as they prepare for a new school year.
