I had the pleasure last week of attending two of our fine arts end-of-the year events. On Tuesday, we had the Fine Arts Spring Concert. Our 6th grade band students performed first followed by Mrs. Parmer’s 6th grade chorus students. The chorus students entertained with both a song and a handbell performance. Because the concert included 6th through 12th grade, the younger students had the opportunity to see future opportunities for them in the fine arts area. On Thursday, I enjoyed a relaxing evening in the Alumni Commons with the different steel drum bands spanning 6th-12th grade. It was fun and entertaining. You would be amazed at what the students can use to create fabulous music. There are many cognitive benefits to music education that extend beyond the band or music classroom. We are extremely proud of our students showcasing their talents and so thankful that God has blessed our school with these talented students and committed teachers.

Summer AR Testing
AR will be turned off beginning Monday, May 18th. AR will be available for summer testing on Monday, June 1st. Students may visit TFA campus to take AR tests Monday through Friday from 9 AM – 3 PM on their iDevices (iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch) through the Accelerated Reader app as of June 1st. Students must be on campus and logged on to the TFA Guest wifi during the designated times in order for the AR app to work. The library will not be open for testing, but there will be iPads available in the lower school lobby for students to use if they don’t have their own device. All AR testing done during the summer will count toward the 1st quarter AR goal for the 2015-2016 school year.

4th Quarter AR Deadline

****For students hoping to achieve the AR 200% club for the entire 2014-2015 school year,
the last day to take AR tests is Monday, May 11th.*****

Any tests taken between May 12th and May 15th will still count toward their 4th quarter goal, but to allow time to compile the necessary information for presenting the 200% Club awards at the LS Awards Chapel on May 14th, we had to set an earlier cutoff date solely for the purposes of the 200% club.

Rising Grade Level Parent Meetings
Parents of students in grades K-5 are invited to attend an informative session on grade level expectations for the next year. Teachers will focus on benchmark learning skills critical for success for the new school year. Every parent should plan to attend. We will have scheduled one session in the afternoon for each grade level. These are rising grade level meetings, so look for the grade your child will be in next year. Meetings will be held in a grade level classroom. Students of parents attending the afternoon session need to be in the supervision of an adult or in the After School Program (normal charges will apply for students who attend the After School Program whilst parents attend the afternoon session).

Classroom Placement
The TFA Faculty and staff are committed to providing the best educational experience for each child. The Principal and Assistant Principal work with teacher(s) to prayerfully consider the needs of the student when making final decisions for student placement. Class placement decisions are based on many factors which include, but are not limited to, the student’s individual learning styles as well as emotional, social, and academic needs. Classroom structure and current teacher recommendations are also closely considered.

Faculty and staff may not be prepared—at this time—to share information regarding their assignment for the next year since we are currently in the process of finalizing teacher grade level assignments. However, God continues to bless us with a strong Lower School team. Please continue to keep our faculty and staff in your prayers throughout the summer as they prepare for a new school year.
