A NOTE FROM MRS. JACKSON
I had the absolute pleasure last week of visiting all of the K4-5th Grade classrooms to read them one of my favorite children’s literature selections, A Fine, Fine School by Sharon Creech.
In this picture book, the principal of the school, Mr. Keene, strongly feels that his school is so wonderful that they need to have more than 5 school days in a week. Throughout the book, he extends school to the weekends, holidays and finally “all summer long, every single day!” You can imagine the response from the students and teachers.
Tillie, a student at the school, has enough courage to explain to Mr. Keene that students learn a lot outside of school and he has a change of heart. I now have students begging me to not have school on Saturdays! The reaction varied from K4 to 5th grade but I enjoyed every visit. I hope to visit all of the classes again to read a story next quarter.
6th Grade Homeroom Representatives
We would like to congratulate the following 6th grade students for representing their homerooms this year. Our 2015-2016 6th Grade Homeroom Representatives are as follows:
Hailey Gill-Mrs. Parmer’s Homeroom
Skylar Sanchez-Mrs. Lawson’s Homeroom
Mallory McDonald-Mr. Morrow’s Homeroom
Nyla Harris-Mrs. Fitzgerald’s Homeroom
Last week, KPrep was very busy celebrating the Letter P. To culminate their week-long unit, the classes made homemade pizzas in class. Pudding makes a nice dessert when you are celebrating too. Check out these fun pictures.
4th/5th Grade Steel Drums
On Thursdays ,after school, a group of 4th and 5th graders meet to play music on the Steel Drums! This band is part of the Royal Academy of the Arts and Enrichment program. These students will not only be learning to play the Steel Drums, but will be learning many fundamentals of music. It’s going to be a fun year!

Wisdom Family Devotion
Please join us in incorporating our 2nd Wisdom Family Devotion as part of your family devotion time. This is a great opportunity for the entire Lower School to look at what the Bible says about wisdom. Thank you for partnering with us to embrace another opportunity to “Grow in Wisdom.”
September Wisdom Devotional 2 (1)
Last year, Lower School piloted the concept of Student-led conferences in 2nd grade. This year, Lower School will transition from traditional parent-teacher conferences to student-led conferences in all grade levels K4-6th grade. During student-led conferences, teachers will act as facilitators while students review their work and progress with their parents. Students may showcase work from a portfolio of assignments they have collected prior to the conference. There will also be a self-evaluation that the students have completed prior to the meeting. The purpose of the self-evaluation is to help students celebrate their strengths and set personal goals in regards to their education. Teachers are working with the students to help guide them through the different parts of the conference. Preparing for the conference helps students take a more active role in their learning throughout the year. There will also be a period of time available at the end of the conference should there be something that needs discussing without the student present. The Lower School conference days are Tuesday September 22nd through Thursday September 24th. We have early dismissal all three days at 12:15pm.
