We have been talking about fairness as our biblical character trait for the month of February. This is a big topic for young children and adolescents as they are experiencing life and forming an understanding of this very challenging topic. I read a devotion that really opened my eyes to some new ways that I could talk about fairness in our home, especially when confronted with some things that seem “unfair” to a child. I wanted to share some of these tips and talking points in hopes that they may be helpful to you.
Looking at unfair situations is a great opportunity to talk about the sovereignty of God. Bad things happen to good people but ultimately God loves us and we should find comfort in that love.
Too much emphasis on fairness leads us all to make comparisons among one another and God wants us to focus on His goodness.
Rather than looking at a situation as fair to one and unfair to another, focus on the fact that we are all blessed at different times in our lives. Focus on being happy for someone else who may have received a blessing.
Philippians Chapter 2 is a great passage to read and think about in regards to fairness. I would encourage us all to read through that chapter this month. There is some great wisdom laid out by the apostle Paul on having a humble spirit and living without complaint.

6th Grade Grace Day
At the First Academy we believe that character comes before career and the importance of growing in God’s graceful wisdom. On February 10th, our 6th graders participated in a half-day on campus retreat. This included a Valentine’s pizza lunch, unity builder activities, and a message of Identity in Christ given by Pastor Jeff Fitzgerald and Pastor Heather Allen from HighPoint Church. It was evident that lives were touched by His word. My thanks to our 6th grade team!

6th Grade Hands-On Learning
Sixth grade science classes explored the great world of physics this week in conjunction to Chapter 1, Atmosphere. Each lab group created their own balloon shuttle to test air pressure, volume, and Newton’s third law of motion. They learned by process of trial and error how to correctly set up and accomplish the process.
