A NOTE FROM MRS. JACKSON
As we continue with our character trait of fairness for the month. I felt it was best to continue to share my information from last week. In addition, please read about Mrs. Lamp’s Chapel presentation as two aspects of fairness were presented.
Fairness is a big topic for young children and adolescents as they are experiencing life and forming an understanding of this very challenging topic. I read a devotion that really opened my eyes to some new ways that I could talk about fairness in our home, especially when confronted with some things that seem “unfair” to a child. I wanted to share some of these tips and talking points in hopes that they may be helpful to you.
Looking at unfair situations is a great opportunity to talk about the sovereignty of God. Bad things happen to good people but ultimately God loves us and we should find comfort in that love.
Too much emphasis on fairness leads us all to make comparisons among one another and God wants us to focus on His goodness.
Rather than looking at a situation as fair to one and unfair to another, focus on the fact that we are all blessed at different times in our lives. Focus on being happy for someone else who may have received a blessing.
Philippians Chapter 2 is a great passage to read and think about in regards to fairness. I would encourage us all to read through that chapter this month. There is some great wisdom laid out by the apostle Paul on having a humble spirit and living without complaint.
Mrs. Lamp’s 3rd Grade Chapel Presentation
Mrs. Lamp’s third grade class focused on the character trait of Fairness at Chapel this week. They discovered at least two things, First, fairness is a part of God’s character. It’s in the Bible!
Isaiah 11:5 “For He will be clothed with fairness and with truth.”
Secondly, acting fairly sounds a lot like The Golden Rule! If people followed these there would be few complaints about unfair treatment. Fairness is playing fair and by the rules, treating others the way you want to be treated, taking turns, sharing, listening, and telling the truth.
