Alumnus Stephen Whitaker, son of Dr. & Mrs. Steve Whitaker, recently finished directing The Odd Couple by Neil Simon which had a successful run April 23-25 in the new Black Box Theatre. This showcase marked multiple firsts in TFA history. It was the first time that a Senior Showcase event has taken place at The First Academy.
This event promises to be an annual highlight as well as a capstone for senior theatre students. Also, by participating in the Senior Showcase, Stephen was the first student director in TFA history. Few people understand the depth of responsibility and leadership that is necessary to direct a show. As a first time student director, successful completion of the showcase was quite a feat.
Stephen has been a thespian since 9th grade and has appeared in most of TFA’s stage presentations since then. He is the current President of Troupe 5165 and is the first male TFA student to win a superior at State in the monologue category. Stephen plans on attending the University of Louisville upon graduation in May.
Congratulations Stephen on a historic run in The First Academy Fine Arts!
