Parents, please take a moment to mark your calendars. The following are important dates that you do not want to miss:
Picture a big family reunion. Everyone arriving with hugs of joy, cheesy t-shirts, and comments of ‘Oh my goodness, he’s grown so much.’ You are excited to meet the new family members and reminisce on memories with the familiar relatives. This is the feeling that fills my heart during the first weeks of school. I love watching our teachers arrive, hearing their summer stories, and experiencing the anticipation of the students’ arrival. I love hearing the laughter of the students filling the hallways and seeing the foundation being laid for their growth this school year. Our school family has arrived and we are off to an amazing start!
If you recall from last week’s post, I wanted to spend a few weeks discussing the elements of our School’s Mission Statement. This week, I want to focus on “Wisdom Beyond Scholarship…” At TCS, the idea of academic rigor and excellence in learning are at the core of who we are; however, it is not the pinnacle of what we desire of our students. Our desire is for our students to display wisdom. Merriam-Webster defines wisdom as “the natural ability to understand things that most other people cannot understand.” So where does the wisdom come from? We see in James 1 that wisdom not only comes from God, but he will also give it to us generously. Let us focus not only on high scholastic excellence but also asking our God to give us the wisdom to use the knowledge learned for His glory.
This week’s spotlight is on new teacher Roxana Dickerson. Mrs. Dickerson is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Communications, as well as a graduate of Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College with a Master’s in Business Administration.
Roxana has an eclectic work history from international sales in the hospitality industry to helping her husband start a commercial real estate brokerage firm; she is a licensed real estate broker. Roxana has worked with TFA’s Advancement Ofice and also as a substitute teacher at The First Academy. Her experience working at TFA has led Roxana to pursue a third career as a teacher, where she will bring her diverse and vast life experience to the classroom.
Our first Spirit Day of the year is Thursday, August 25th! Students may wear jeans or TFA uniform bottoms with a TFA Spirit shirt (can be any type of TFA shirt – athletics, drama, Homecoming, etc) or students may wear a uniform shirt.
This is a required meeting for all parents of High School students and will take place on August 23rd from 11:00am – 12:30pm in E-2, Room 225. We will be going over important information that students and parents need to know for High School and beyond.
Picture Day is Tuesday, August 23rd. Make sure your favorite color uniform shirt is washed and ready!
If an item your family has ordered from Dennis Uniforms is on back order, your child may wear non-Dennis uniform bottoms until that item arrives. Dennis Uniforms provided a comprehensive list of families whose items are on back order and are assisting with expediting these orders as soon as possible.
All High School students will be drug tested within the next few weeks. We will notify students and parents of the date once it is set.
We have beautiful classrooms with new carpet! We would prefer students bring water to drink. Parents, please help us keep the rooms looking nice by using caution with the types of foods and drinks you send in lunches. We are so grateful to First Orlando for providing these nice classrooms!
