Parents, please take a moment to mark your calendars. The following are important dates that you do not want to miss:
Our final post in the series of examining our School’s Mission Statement will be to look at “Participation as a way of life.” At TCS, it is our desire for our students to be active participants in all that they do. We do not want them to be complacent – “just going through the motions”. In all that they do, whether it is our Kindergarten students supporting our football players from the stands, or Seniors welcoming students on the first day of school, our students do not sit idly by but are led to give all they can for the betterment of the institution. Participation allows us to learn how to encourage others and expose ourselves to new things. However, not all participation comes without a price. The scriptures explain in Philippians that we may participate in Christ’s sufferings. Participation is not always glamorous; however, it will continue to refine us in the people that God intended us to be.
This week’s spotlight is on new teacher Lori Shipley. Mrs. Shipley is thrilled to return to the teaching field after taking time to be at home while her children were in school. She taught social studies at The First Academy for 7 years in various grades from 7th through 12th, including AP US History, World History, and Geography. While at TFA, she served as Team Leader and NJHS Sponsor. She also taught at Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Florida with graduate work in Social Studies Education at UCF and at Nova Southeastern University.
Parents: Each week the blog will include this sign-up link for volunteer needs around TCS. We are so thankful for our parent volunteers and appreciate any help you can provide. Please click here.
All TCS high school students will be drug tested on Tuesday, September 20th, during the school day.
The next uniform resale is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20 from 7:30am-9:30am in the First Baptist Orlando Student Center, room 112.
Important Update Regarding our Uniform Exchange Policy: The Parent Association sponsored uniform exchange ministry has been a tremendous blessing to our TFA family. Thank you for participating! Because students must wear Dennis Uniform pieces exclusively in 2017-18, Sunshine Uniform pieces will not be accepted for an exchange credit this year. We welcome donations of used Sunshine pieces, but cannot offer an exchange credit, as these items will be phased out completely in 2017-18. We will, however, be offering normal exchange credits for Dennis Uniform pieces. This will help us increase our supply of Dennis Uniforms and enable us to continue our ministry. Thank you for supporting the uniform exchange.
Second Grade created examples of the life cycle of a butterfly using different materials, including brown paper bags, tissue paper, and pipe cleaners. Hands-on learning is so much fun!
There will be a senior lunch for all TFA Seniors (including TCS) on Friday, September 23rd at 12:50 PM in the Student Center. Please note this was changed from the original date that was sent out on the Senior Events Calendar at the beginning of the summer.
Beginning this week, we will be collecting Box Tops to raise money for TCS and The First Hope. We have a goal to raise 5,000 box tops, which is $500. The TCS class that brings in the most box tops will receive a pizza and ice cream party, courtesy of the Graham Family. The first collection contest will run from September 6th – October 24th. Start cutting those box tops and sending in with your student!
Students can find the PDF form for submitting service hours on the TFA website (Upper School, >Guidance, >Community Service Hours) or by clicking here. Please do not submit the online form, as this goes to the TFA Upper School. Please print the form and turn it into Mrs. Mayberry
