Message from Mrs. Sarah Donovan, Director of The Extended Educational Programs

“Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold.” This mantra from my Girl Scout days reminds me of the cycle of admissions. Our doors are open to serving new families academically and spiritually, always. There is something just as special as seeing a family return to our programs. Both are gold to us! During re-enrollment, I wake up in the early hours every day to see who is returning to our school family. It is truly such an exciting time! Serving the students and families at TFA’s Extended Educational Programs is truly a calling and I am honored at the privilege of continuing to serve you all during the upcoming school year.

3’s (Miss Kim, Miss Ebony and Miss Melanie’s Class):

I know it is hard to believe but enrollment for your child’s KPrep class for next year has already begun.  To make the process as seemless as possible, please check out the website link  http://thefirstacademy.org/admissions/how-to-apply/ which will take you directly to TFA’s Admission page.  From there you will be able to begin the online admission’s process to complete the application for your child to apply for KPrep at The First Academy.  I encourage you to begin this process right away as space is limited for the KPrep program.

We are excited to share with you that we already have 11 friends who have been accepted for next year!

Please feel free to contact Lyn Hawkins, TFA Admissions with any questions (407) 206-8602.  Please let me know how I can be helpful or can offer any additional assistance.

Fine Motor Fun

Fine motor development is crucial to successful handwriting.  Research teaches us that the importance of strengthening hands and fingers is what helps students to be successful with their fine motor skills.   We start as early as our toddlers with activities to help children develop this skill.  In our toddlers, the children are exposed to different textures through sensory play as well as given different size brushes and crayons to help them strengthen their fingers.   Our 2’s use playdoh and cutting to further develop this skills.  In our 3’s, along with our phonics curriculum, we incorporate several different techniques to help children use a variety of muscles to practice learning their letters.  Below are 4 ways the 3’s practice their letters each week.

Miss Kim having her friends practice B’s  on the dry erase board                               Letter B at easel using large brush (including crossing the midline while creating letter which is a helpful skill for writing and brain connection)

Creating Bees Out of the letter B to help with visual recognition of letter B          Rainbow writing using small markers which encourages proper handwriting grip and strengthens fingers at the same time
