A MESSAGE FROM SARAH DONOVAN, DIRECTOR OF THE EXTENDED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. A love of books is the best of all.” Jacqueline Kennedy Next week, TFA’s Preschool is hosting their first Scholastic Book Fair. Putting books in the hands of our littlest Royals and their families is invaluable to growing future readers, and ultimately leaders. Children learn to read in the laps of their parents…and teachers! We are excited to grow our Preschool library through this event. The Preschool Book Fair is being hosted on October 25th-27th at 8:00-10:00am and 3:00-5:00pm at the Preschool (FBCO Campus, E2 Building-1st Floor). The book levels will range from Preschool – 5th grade. We are opening the book fair to TFA Lower School families on Wednesday, October 26th from 2:45pm-5:00pm. All TEEP families gain special admittance and are welcome during the open Preschool Book Fair at all times! If you can’t make the event, good news- below is the link to shop online 🙂
Happy Reading!

CLASS AND STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

We are excited to share that, after three years in the planning stages, our Transitions+ Garden has finally been created with the help of our T+ Secondary students.   We feel so blessed we were finally able to make it happen. Thank you, First Baptist Church of Orlando  for allowing us the use of the space.  The students planted onions, peppers, and tomatoes and have been very diligent about keeping them watered.  We are hopeful that this is just the start to one of many life skill activities to help our students in this program.  Get ready for some homemade pizza down the road! God is good!

“Language can be very abstract and difficult for my students to grasp. I love using the thinking maps, because they give visual structure to words and ideas. Not only do the maps give context, but they give the students a cooperative language experience as we create them together. All of this helps my students internalize word meanings and concepts better than they have before.”

As I think about what some of the important things we do at The First Hope, the thing that comes to mind first is building students up in the Lord and teaching them about all his creation.  The next important thing is about teaching our students other skills like math and reading.  I love that our unique program helps students to learn in a smaller ratio (mostly 1:2, except T+ Secondary is 1:4), giving them more attention with all the teachers, paras, therapists, and PE.  Our staff use so many manipulatives, sensory, and other things to help them excel and grow.  I get the advantage to see this first hand every single day.  Thank you teachers and staff for what you do and give each and every day.  It is noticed and we parents are so grateful and thankful for you!
