NEW THIS WEEK

Royal Sapphires Perform at House of Hope

The Varsity Royal Sapphires ended their season with an outreach to the House of Hope, a non-denominational, not-for-profit, Christ-centered residential program offering hope to hurting teens ages 13-17. Early in the season, Sapphire Angel Collins, Coaches Leslie Scott and Cynthia Collins, along with girls from Celebration Ministries, inc. (directed by Cynthia Collins) and Aloma Praise Dancers (directed by Leslie Scott) met with HOH residents  to share studies on prayer and worship, and form relationships through fellowship and testimonies. The season ended with the Sapphires joining Celebration and Aloma in an evening of worship with HOH residents modeled after the New Testament church. Girls from all 4 groups took turns offering dances and dramas in worship, along with a foot washing which included parents. Angel Collins, Natalie Douglas, and Brooke Hill witnessed through personal testimony, touching hearts and bringing many to tears. The evening ended with prayer, hugs, and tears, and signing of the ‘We are One’ T-shirt given to each resident to symbolize the relationships formed through the season. Praise Him with DANCING! Psalm 150…

Upper School Ceramics Raku Firing

Pictured: a student participating in last year’s raku firing

TFA is on fire again! On November 13, students from the Ceramics program will experience the RAKU firing process on campus! Ceramics III, IV, and AP Ceramics students will perform this pottery firing process throughout the school day, while Ceramics I, II, and Middle School Ceramics classes will join during their class periods to watch.

Raku is a pottery technique originating in 16th century Japan. Rather than loading glazed pottery into our TFA electric kilns to cure the surface at 2000 degrees for 24 hours, the Raku process uses an actual 30 minute flash fire process! Similar to original pottery firing techniques in Biblical times using large underground wood-fed pit fires, Raku employs propane gas to bring the pottery to near 2000 degrees rather quickly. Tune in for an update soon!
