What I Saw in the Mirror This Morning

Written By: Dr. Whitaker, Head of School

In writing to the church at Ephesus, the Apostle Paul penned these words, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Wow, what a thought! What I see each morning in the mirror doesn’t necessarily strike me as God’s workmanship, but that’s what the Bible says, so I’m going with it.

In spite of my insecurities, the fact remains that God has created me in His image and He has a special work for me to do in His kingdom. The same is true for you – there is no one else with your talents, gifts and abilities. There are good works that God has prepared in advance for you to accomplish. There is no one else that can do them quite like you.

When I describe The First Academy to friends around the country, one of the characteristics I often mention is the enormous generosity of our families who give their time, talent, and treasure to advance this institution. We are a multitude of people using our unique gifts and talents to advance the cause of Christ. To the room parent coordinator, the volunteer soccer coach, the faithful donor, and a host of other gracious individuals who serve with only the promise of eternal rewards – we are so blessed by your good works!

No matter how large or small your investment of time, I want you to know that by serving as a volunteer at The First Academy, you have fulfilled the good works that God has prepared in advance for you to do. Thank you for serving others. Thank you for loving children the way Jesus did. Thank you for making a difference.
