A NOTE FROM MRS. JACKSON
Thank you to all of the parents who attended the Lower School Coffee with the Principal on Wednesday morning in the library. There was a nice blend of new and returning families and it is a great way for me to connect familiar faces with names. I love the opportunity to talk about The First Academy and Lower School in particular. Many thanks to all of our families for partnering with us for a great school year.
6th Grade Leadership Retreat
We had an excellent time last Friday at the 6th Grade Leadership Retreat. Each of the 6th grade teachers along with Mr. Laegeler planned a breakout session. These were designed to build community among the students. They had so much fun working together to achieve a common task. Many thanks to the 6th grade teachers and Mr. Laegeler for planning meaningful activities for the students. After lunch and a time of worship, Mr. John Evans spoke to the students about their personal relationship with Jesus. He is the campus FCA director at UCF and the students could relate to his message. We ended our time with a challenge to the students to read through the book of Proverbs during this school year.. We can’t wait to see what God has in store for these boys and girls this year.
2nd Grade Words of Wisdom
The second graders have shared practical ways that they can each Grow in Wisdom with their hallway owl display. Their owls are absolutely beautiful. Stop by and take a look at their artwork and writing next time you are on their hallway.

First Quarter Reading Incentive Program
Research proves that the amount of time that students are engaged in independent reading correlates directly to growth in vocabulary, reading comprehension, and fluency. There is also research supporting the premise that students who read independently become better readers and score higher on achievement tests across all subject areas. At TFA, we strive to develop the love of reading in all of our students. To help foster that love of reading, the TFA library is excited to announce our 1st quarter reading incentive programs for our K Prep through sixth grade students! Both reading incentive programs will last from August 31st-October 3rd.
K4 Prep, TK and Kindergarten students will be participating in a “Pete the Cat” reading incentive program. Each week, students will bring home a “Pete the Cat” reading record form to fill out. Students can read the books themselves, or the books may be read to them. Completed reading records (records with at least 10 books) should be turned in during the student’s regular library time each week in order to receive a special prize! Students who turn in a completed reading record each week of the reading incentive program will be recognized during halftime at a TFA Varsity Football Game!!!
1st through 6th grade classes will be participating in a “Blitzing the Books” football themed reading incentive program. Each week, all classes in each grade will compete against each other to see which class can earn the most total AR points for that week. The class from each grade level who wins each week will earn an extra spirit day for the following Thursday. At the end of the reading incentive program, AR points will be added up for all the classes for the length of the program. The class with the most overall points for each grade will be recognized during halftime at a TFA Varsity Football Game!!!!!
Attendance was fantastic at the first Parent Association Meeting of the school year. It was almost standing room only for the group part at the beginning. All parent volunteers must submit a background check before being allowed to volunteer. Please click HERE to submit your information for a free background check.
