Pastor Appreciation Month 2024

7 Simple Ways to Say Thank You

October is when we celebrate our Pastors during Pastor Appreciation Month. (But we suspect anytime is a good time to recognize these men and women.) Whether you attend First Orlando or one of the many other wonderful churches around town, below are seven simple ideas for how you can celebrate and appreciate your pastor during this important month.

1. Attend Church Regularly
One of the simplest ways to show appreciation is to be present at church. Your pastor knows the importance of gathering together to hear God’s Word. Seeing you in the congregation, worshipping with fellow believers, will mean more than you might realize.

2. Offer Words of Encouragement
If a recent sermon touched your heart, let your pastor know. Send a personal, heartfelt note, or even comment on a social media post that inspired you. A kind word goes a long way in reminding them that their efforts are seen and appreciated.

3. Collaborate on a Group Gift
After years in ministry, your pastor may have accumulated a lot of small tokens of appreciation. While these are cherished, consider pooling resources with fellow church members to give something more substantial—a weekend getaway or a generous gift card, for example.

4. Deliver Their Favorite Dish
Everyone loves a good meal, and your pastor is no different. If you know what they love—whether it’s fried croissants, lasagna, or chicken and dumplings—why not cook a meal for their family?

5. Serve Faithfully All Year Long
Your pastor works hard for the church, so a great way to show appreciation is to serve faithfully, not just in October but all year round. Ask where help is needed, and offer your time and talents to support the ministry.

6. Support Your Pastor’s Family
While the pastor is often the face of the ministry, their family plays a crucial role behind the scenes. Showing love and support to your pastor’s family is one of the most meaningful ways to express appreciation. A congregation that loves the pastor’s family blesses the pastor as well.

7. Pray for Your Pastor
Prayer is one of the most powerful gifts you can offer your pastor. Spiritual leaders face immense pressure and challenges, and nearly every pastor we spoke to emphasized the importance of prayer. Pray regularly for your pastor and their family, and let them know you’re doing so. It will be a lasting source of encouragement beyond just this month.
