Many of us have become acquainted with Portal while some are left asking, “What’s this blue ‘Login’ button?” Today we’d like to formally introduce you to The First Academy’s Portal, a secure platform for all of your online TFA resources. Whether you’re a Parent, Student, Alumni or Employee, Portal conveniently logs you in to other web-based, Active Directory integrated services, such as Canvas or Web Help Desk; for services that have a unique login, such as RenWeb, Portal will retain your credentials upon your first login through Portal. Either way you’ll never have to retype your passwords again, the following article and subsequent videos will instruct you on the other features of Portal and how to navigate through them.
On your first login, you’ll be prompted to create security questions, which you can later use if you forget your Active Directory (Portal) password, or if you want to reset it. After filling in the questions, you’ll come to your Portal Home screen where your most recently used and favorited items are located. Assuming you’ve not used anything, nor favorited anything the Home tab is most likely blank! Look towards the bottom of the screen, you’ll see white text links titled: Home, Account, Applications, Desktop, and Forms & Docs.
We’ve just discussed the Home tab, the Account tab contains your Password Reset Link. To reset your password select (Account >) Authentication > Change Password. This will reset your Active Directory Password, meaning your TFA Wi-Fi, Canvas, Computer Login, Gmail, Web Help Desk, and other services will be affected (ie: you will probably have to retype/reauthenticate to the various services).
The Applications tab contains different resources for each user type – you’ll find one or more of the following resources: RenWeb, Naviance, the Abila Suite, Accelerated Reader, Canvas, ClipTraining, Delta Controller, Follet Destiny Quest, HRHQ, TimeClock, Web Help Desk, Math Tools, Schlage, Valcom, and more! Feel free to launch any of the apps and you’ll find the next time you login, your Home tab will populate with your most recently used applications. For the one’s you really like, you can right click their icons and choose Add to Favorites so they’ll always be on your Home tab. To close an app, simply click the ‘X’ in the top right of most apps.
The Desktop tab hosts access to your secure drives. Select (Desktop >) webStorage and you’ll see a list of available servers or hard drives. Students can access ‘Student Users’, Parents receive ‘Parent Users’, and Employee’s receive a combination of Parent and Employee Drives (including the U:Drive). This means you no longer need to be on campus to access these resources! After you access a drive, depending on the setup, you may need to search for the item you’re looking for, simply choose the ‘… More Options’ from the top of the page, then you can use the Search prompt. Similarly, if you have access to upload or download a file, you can do so with the same top menu (‘Upload’ and ‘More Options…’ areas).
Lastly, you can find your Forms and Documents conveniently located in the Forms and Docs tab. These will be periodically updated and added to throughout the year. Resources include AfterCare Ticket Purchase, the Back to School Packet, and the Employee Forms.
When you’re finished with Portal, don’t forget to Logout (the Square with left-facing arrow in it) and you’ll be redirected back to our website.
