Are you looking for opportunities to serve the community with your family this holiday season? Read on to find out more about six great options being offered through Fellowship of Christian Athletes, First Baptist Orlando, and Second Harvest Food Bank.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes:

Last year, FCA and their teams were instrumental in feeding 40 local families who were unable to purchase Thanksgiving dinner. This year, Coach Oliver is working to prepare Thanksgiving Boxes for families from Washington Shores Elementary School. The size of the families range from four to ten members and many of the children are currently homeless or in transition. Coach Oliver is looking for families or groups to donate a $25.00 gift certificate for Walmart (to go with each box of food) so that the families can purchase a turkey and any other needed items.

Here is a list of what is included in each box (Anything in addition to the list would be appreciated!):

  • 3 cans of green beans, 2 large cans of candied yams, 2 cans of corn, 2 cans of black-eyed peas, 2 cans of cranberries, 3 cans of soup
  • 2 large boxes of mashed potatoes
  • 2 large boxes of macaroni and cheese
  • 1-2 large boxes of yellow rice or rice pilaf
  • 1-2 boxes of stuffing mix
  • An apple, pumpkin, or pecan pie
  • 1 gallon of sweet tea
  • 2 bags of marshmallows
  • 1 box of hot chocolate
  • Gravy

Please place the food for donation in a large box and bring it to Upper School classroom 151 by this Friday, November 17.  If you are able to assist in the delivery of the boxes, please meet in Coach Oliver’s classroom (US 151) at 11:30am on Friday, November 17.  The volunteers will help deliver the food and gift certificates in front of Washington Shores Elementary from 12:00-3:00pm.

Christmas Mall Toy Drive

This Christmas, FBO is collecting new, unwrapped toys for kids of all ages. This drive gives the families of United Against Poverty the opportunity to “shop” for their children at affordable prices. Toys can be dropped off at the Welcome Centers through December 3.

Christmas Angel

Choose an angel from our Angel Tree and bless a local family during this holiday season. This is a great Christmas serving opportunity for your family, friends, or Life Group! Opportunities to sponsor a family for Christmas will be available in the Gathering Place before and after each of our weekend services.

Second Harvest Food Bank:

This year, there’s a way to give thanks on Thanksgiving with little fuss in the kitchen and an opportunity to help those in need in our community. Move over restaurants and supermarkets, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is preparing Thanksgiving dinners for sale to the general public, and 100 percent of the monies raised goes to the agency’s culinary education program. You can learn more about this initiative HERE!

Thank you for linking arms with us to serve our community this holiday season.
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
