TCS Newsletter, Week of 10/2

Please take a moment to mark your calendars. The following are important dates that you do not want to miss:

•Oct. 10 and 13 – Self-Study Days
•Oct. 14 – History and Geography Fair
•Oct. 15 – PSAT (9th-11th grades)

Mrs. Amy Talley, our new Lower School art teacher, had been teaching for several years and joins us from Providence Academy and Azalea Baptist. Her goal for students this year is to show them that they can have fun with art while examining different techniques and styles. Most recently, the students completed fall tree collages where they used different media to create their masterpiece. We are blessed to have her as a part of our team!

Self Study Days
Periodically throughout the year Self-Study Days have been calendared. The Self-Study Days were designed to give our families flexibility in participating in activities outside of our curriculum. On the Self-Study Days, students will not be assigned work by their teachers. Rather, the student and parent can come up with their own course of study for that day. This counts as a school day, so you must still document your hours; however, you are not required to turn anything in to the school.

History and Geography Fair
Projects may be set up in E2 room 215/225 before school beginning at 7:30. Projects will be judged during History class.

The PSAT is a practice test for the official SAT. Please be aware that the PSAT does carry other special significance. The following things are important for each parent and student to know about the PSAT:
•For Juniors, PSAT scores are used to determine all National Merit Semifinalists and Finalists.
For all students, the PSAT score is used in conjunction with teacher recommendations for placement of students in Honors level courses.
