The Classical School Blog, Week of January 19th

Parents, please take a moment to mark your calendars. The following are important dates that you do not want to miss:

A Message from Sarah Donovan, Principal of Extended Educational Programs

Recently, TFA released it’s annual ‘State of the School’. It was mailed to all TFA families, including The Extended Educational Programs. It includes highlights from the 5-day programs, as well as stellar shout outs to TFA’s Preschool, TCS, and The First Hope. In case it is still waiting in your mail stack at home, below is the link to the document and a message from Dr. Whitaker. Our Lord is blessing us in so many ways, and our families are our greatest gifts!

A Message from Joe Fana,  Principal of The Classical School

At TCS, we are excited for our partnership with Valencia College!  This past week, Amanda Marie Blom, Valencia’s Dual Enrollment Coordinator, shared with our High School parents and students more details on the advantage of their Dual Enrollment (DE) Program.  The meeting included the benefits of DE, eligibility requirements, program expectations, and the application process.  At TCS, we have found that those students, who have taken advantage of the DE opportunity, found much success to prepare them for a full-time college experience upon their graduate from TCS.  DE allows students to take college courses, virtually and on Valencia’s campus, which can count as credit towards their High School requirements while earning College credit.  According to CollegeBoard, “in Florida, 94% of dual enrollment students earn post-secondary credit.”  What an amazing opportunity!  Please see Mrs. Mayberry if you would like to learn more about our partnership with Valencia College.

Belmont University

Congratulations to Gatlin Thornton, TCS Senior, who was accepted into Belmont University’s Song Writing Program. Only 18% of the applicants are accepted into this program. Gatlin has had the opportunity to create her own album, and she has performed in various venues over the last few years. We look forward to seeing what else God has in store for her!
