A Message from Sarah Donovan, Principal of Extended Educational Programs
As I serve each unique Extended Educational Program, I am especially grateful for three very special leaders. I am grateful for Patty Myers and her heart for providing our TFH students with a place to grow in mind, body, and spirit. She has been with the program since its start, and would move mountains to ensure the best for our students. I am grateful for Grayson Merritt and her heart for our littlest Royals. She has a gift and unwavering love for creating a preschool that helps both our students and staff flourish. I am grateful for Joe Fana and his heart for creating a strong school to home connection. He has a contagious joy for our TCS students and staff that fills our hallways and hearts. Please join me in thanking them for their love and leadership.
This is Jen’s first year at TCS. She teaches several math classes and enjoys sharing her love of math with them (even if they haven’t developed that love yet). She appreciates the opportunity to teach The First Hope inclusion students. Beyond just teaching, Jen loves hearing about the students’ lives before and after class.
One of Mrs. Tower’s favorite memories was teaching geometry. She brought M&Ms and spaghetti to teach points and lines. The kids enjoyed it, and so did she.
Jen will vacation anywhere with sand, gorgeous water, and her family. Barbados is one place that comes to mind. Her family enjoys both sports and fine arts, but one of her favorite hobbies is riding her bike whether on local trails or in completely new locations. Her personal best is riding fifty miles in one day. She hopes to beat that by going seventy-five miles in one day sometime soon.
NEW THIS WEEK
Shoeboxes for Haiti
Each year, The First Academy participates in one school wide Christmas mission project. This year we are pleased to announce our continued partnership with the New Missions’ Shoe Box Drive. New Missions is a Christian organization with schools in Haiti, serving approximately 10,000 students. Our boxes will be a gift of love to those who are in extreme need of even the most basic of health and school items.
More information can be found at http://shoeboxdrive.com
Boxes will be collected on Thursday, November 12 outside of the TCS office.
If you wish to pay for postage online, please visit https://thefirstacademy.org/blog/haiti-shoebox-drive/
Thank you for partnering with us as we touch the lives and hearts of those in need.
The Gift of Time- A Devotional Message from PJ Wehry
Time binds us. It wraps us up and embraces us. “I have seen the burden that God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” As small as we are in this gigantic cosmos that God has created, He has still created us for something great. We are bound within time, but God has made that time, that passing and moving, into something beautiful. As we watch our kids grow, as we watch the seasons pass, every step of the way carries its own hurt, its own goodness, and its own beauty. Recognize each day for the good gift it is, and recognize that beyond even these good gifts, God has called us to himself. His eternal person is something we desire in the depths of our hearts. Our lives are full of these and many more wonders. Do not dismiss them. Instead, day to day, embrace them.
The Self-Study Days were designed to give our families flexibility in participating in activities outside of our curriculum. On the Self-Study Days, students will not be assigned work by their teachers. Rather, the student and parent can come up with their own course of study for that day. This counts as a school day; however, you are not required to turn in documentation in to the school.
Please take a few moments to verify and update your contact, emergency, and pickup information in RenWeb. This is our primary method of regular communication so it is important that we have
accurate information on each student.
