RECOGNITION
Latin Awards
On Monday, May 15, the Latin wing of the World Languages Department of the Upper School of The First Academy held its second annual awards day called Dies Palmarum Linguae Latinae. There were approximately 130 students and parents who gathered to celebrate the achievements of Latin students. Students distinguished themselves either on the National Latin Exam or by earning the National Latin Honor Society or both.
The National Latin Exam is annually administered to high school students. This year, over 149,000 students from all 50 states and 16 countries participated in the exams. This 40 question assessment is written to cover a wide span of information regarding mythology, culture, history and of course the Latin Language. This year, there were three students who came within three points of perfect papers. Congratulations to Enzo B. (10th), Patrick S. (10th), and Tucker K. (9th) for this gold medal achievement.
The National Latin Honor Society is open to students who earn an “A” in three quarters of the school year (any three of four quarters) and who are students in “good standing.” A unique feature of the NLHS is that students must earn the honor each and every year to maintain their membership. Therefore, the “Palma” is awarded to recognize multiple consecutive NLHS achievements. This is necessarily a very unique achievement. While there were several students who earned the Palma (1st year qualifying for NLHS), Secunda Palma (2nd year qualifying for NLHS), and the Tertia Palma (3rd year qualifying for NLHS) there was one student who earned the Quarta Palma (4th year qualifying for NLHS) and was awarded the Rudis for her efforts. Congratulations to Melanie Pearce (11th) for earning the Quarta Palma.

Library Announcements
All books are due to the Boyd Moline Library by Friday, May 19 to avoid incurring a lost book charge. The Boyd Moline Library will be closed May 22-24.
REMINDERS
Graduation Ceremony
Please join us for our graduation ceremony next Friday, May 19 in the First Orlando Worship Center. Doors open at 6:00pm, and the processional begins at 6:45pm.
US Final Exam Schedule
Upper School families,
We are quickly approaching the end of the school year. Included in this email is an exam schedule and a permission form that allows your student the opportunity to gain the college feel of independence during final exams.
Final exams are divided among the last four days of school, starting on Friday, May 19. With your permission, students can come and go between exams. If a signed permission form is not turned in, students will not be permitted to leave TFA campus. Students who remain on campus will be sent to study hall classrooms for accountability for the remainder of the school day. Lunch will be held in Faith Hall from 11:30am – 12:30pm each day, and the cafeteria will close at 12:30pm.
If students have already taken their AP exams or do not have an exam in a specific class, they are not required to report to school during their assigned exam time.
Final Exam Days:
Friday, May 19: English & Science
Monday, May 22: Social Studies & Foreign Language
Tuesday, May 23: Math & Make-Up Exams
Wednesday, May 24: Teacher Grading & Make-Up Exams. Students are not required to report to school on Wednesday, May 24 unless they need to make up an exam. Teachers will communicate with individual students to coordinate make-up exams.
Permission forms should be turned in Ms. Maxime in the front lobby.
