Lower School Arts

Artistic Foundations

Lower School Arts at The First Academy are purposefully infused with a character-building, spiritual journey that extends beyond the classroom as a way of life. Students in Kindergarten Prep through 5th grade receive Music and Art instruction for 45 minutes per week. These programs build the foundation for the Middle and Upper School Fine Arts Program.

In Music, students learn by doing as they sing, play instruments, move to music, as well as read and notate music composition. This exploration provides the building blocks of their music education through a comprehensive and sequential program. With these learned skills, our students are well prepared to continue on to instrumental and vocal music programs. In Art education, students learn to communicate ideas through art and are inspired by God’s creation through the world of art, art history, and the basics of studio arts. Students are challenged to create their own ideas and produce unique works of art through the use of various art materials and techniques.

Music and art skills can be enhanced by participation in The Academies. This after-school program offers a large repertoire of activities, including visual and performing arts.

All Lower School students participate in the annual Christmas Program, which is streamed live online each December.

Royal Choir

The Royal Choir is an extracurricular class offered to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.  Students learn to develop their vocal skills to sing alone and with a group. Students are taught how to read music and sing with expression and technical accuracy. Students perform a varied repertoire of vocal literature representing diverse genres and cultures. Contact Mrs. Savage at debisavage@thefirstacademy.org for more information.

Evening at the Arts

The Lower School presents a musical production and a visual arts show each spring.  The musical is offered to 4th and 5th-grade students and is an extracurricular activity.  Students have a whole theater experience including custom costumes, lighting, and sound.  The directors are committed to helping the student actors hone their gifts and talents. We want to facilitate an environment of healthy self-confidence, well-developed performance skills, and a strong work ethic. Every Lower School student will have one or more pieces of artwork displayed in a visual arts show to be viewed during the theatrical performance dates.
