Caroline Crist: A Strong Foundation

At what grade level did you start at The First Academy?

I came to TFA in 7th grade.

What were the reasons you or your parents chose The First Academy?

I wanted to be in a Christian environment where I could challenge myself in academics and athletics.

Are you involved in extracurricular activities? If so, what are they and have you received awards in these activities? (These can be affiliated with TFA or outside of school)

I have participated in Varsity Cross Country and Varsity Track and Field for 6 years. I was the Individual District Champion in the 5k for 4 consecutive years during Cross Country season; and was District Champion in the 1600, 3200, 800, 4 x 800, 4 x 400. I was the captain of both teams in 10-12 grades. God allowed me to set the school record in the 5k, 1500 meter, 1600 meter, 3200 meter, and the steeple chase! My wonderful coaches awarded me the following awards at the sports banquet: Most Outstanding Cross Country Runner (9 and 11), Cross Country Hustle Award (10), and Most Outstanding Track and Field Runner (11). God has blessed me so much in my running career at The First Academy. In addition to sports, I also participated in several clubs and societies like the National Junior Honor Society (9-10), National Honors Society (11-12), National Spanish Honors Society (10-12), Wounded Warriors Club (9-12), Best Buddies Club (9-10), Table Tennis Club (11-12), Young Republicans Club (11), Scuba Diving Club (11), National Art Honors Society (12), and The Clean Marine Club (12).

Which colleges have you applied to and which ones have you be accepted to thus far? (Please include if you have made a decision to attend a certain college next year)

I applied to and received admission from Pennsylvania State University, University of North Florida, and the University of Florida. I plan to attend the University of Florida. Go Gators!

What do you plan to study in college and what are your long-term career goals?

I plan to get my Masters Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders in the hopes of becoming a Speech Language Pathologist.

Have you received any college scholarships? If so, which ones? (Or, which ones are you currently nominated for)

I received the Presidential Gold Scholarship from the University of North Florida. I also qualified for Florida Bright Futures.

Who is/are your favorite TFA teacher(s), and why? (Teachers can be K4-12)

This is the hardest question for me to answer because my favorite part of TFA has been my teachers. I will say, I don’t think I’ve ever had a teacher quite like Mrs. Wasylik.
I had her during my junior year for AP Environmental Science. She made me excited for class and eager to learn. She incorporated Biblical truth into every aspect of the class which made me see God in nature all around me. Mrs. Wasylik believed in my potential even when I didn’t, and that pushed me to try my hardest (whether I was running on the track or learning in the classroom). I continue to use the knowledge I gained in her class on a daily basis! I wish I could take the course again, I loved it so much.

How has TFA made a difference in, or impacted your life?

The First Academy has given me such a foundation for my walk with Christ. Through Bible classes and chapels, I have been gaining confidence about my faith that will help me when I go to college and into the workforce.

How do you feel that The First Academy has prepared you for life after graduation?

I think TFA has helped me grow in my faith tremendously, and that will help me in all aspects of my life.

What does it mean to you to be a The First Academy alumni?

To me, that means that I had the opportunity of going to a Christ-centered school while I developed my academic and athletic abilities.
