During College Week, we want to spotlight several members of the Class of 2021 including Cameron Kingston, who has attended The First Academy since the 7th Grade.
What were the reasons you or your parents chose The First Academy?
My family and I chose The First Academy, not because of just their strong academics, but their strong spiritual support system that they have. Each and every single teacher is an amazing spiritual leader that acts not only as just an educator, but a light for Christ.
Are you involved in extracurricular activities?
Yes! I have been a captain on the Varsity Lacrosse team for four years, and I have loved every minute of it. I have also been the Blue Crew President, Royal-Thon Co-Leader, NHS Treasurer, Founded the Rolling Royals Club, and participated in Raw Footage throughout high school. Every extracurricular I have participated in has been amazing, and such an enjoyable way of getting involved.
Which colleges have you applied to thus far?
I have applied to The University of Florida, The University of Arizona, The University of Vermont, Florida State University, Clemson University, Boston College, College of the Holy Cross, and George Washington University.
What do you plan to study in college and what are your long-term career goals?
I would like to study business in college, and later go to Law school. My dream is to become an entertainment lawyer and work in the musical field.
Who are some of your favorite TFA teachers, and why?
There are so many different teachers that have been amazing throughout my TFA years, so it is so hard to narrow it down. Miss Damron was my favorite teacher junior year for APUSH. She is so passionate about US History and it truly does reflect in how she teaches. Mr. Kowars was also an amazing teacher because he was focused on the well-being of his students and truly cared about our interests. Mr. Harvey has been an amazing senior year. I look forward to his class every day, and he fights so hard for the senior class to have their best year yet, regardless of the circumstances.
In one sentence, what did being a student at The First Academy mean to you?
Being a TFA student meant to always be a leader for Christ and of integrity no matter what.
How has TFA made a difference in, or impacted your life?
TFA has made such an impact in my life. The teachers, administration, and all of the extracurriculars that they provide are more than just another thing at school. The administration at TFA has been such a support system in and outside of school. They go to every game, play, and event that means something to a student. They go above and beyond to be the best possible leaders that they could be, and it has made such an impact in my life.
Do you feel that The First Academy has prepared you for life after graduation?
Yes, I do. At TFA, I have balanced so many things at once and have learned how to manage my time wisely. I believe that that is an essential thing that you have to have learned before college in order to succeed.
What is your favorite memory at TFA?
My favorite memory at TFA has been leading Royal-Thon. I have grown so much throughout my time involved in Royal-Thon, and I am so thankful that I was able to be involved in it since the start. It has been such a blessing in my life and I am so grateful for my time spent leading this amazing committee. Another one of my favorite memories at TFA has been starting the Rolling Royals Club. This year has been rough on all of the seniors since a lot has been taken away from us, but this club gave seniors something to get excited about. It has been awesome watching seniors get excited about something this year since excitement is so scarce during these times.
How have you grown in your walk with Christ since coming to TFA?
I have grown so much in my walk with Christ since coming to TFA. TFA implements Christ’s message into our lives on a daily basis. All of the teachers lead by example and have been such inspiring leaders in my life that have strengthened my relationship with Christ.
What was one spiritual insight you gained at TFA that has impacted your life the most?
Something that TFA has emphasized in my life is the value of serving others and what you can do for your community. Everyone will be the first to want to jump up and be the leader, but very few will sit back and ask what they can do for others. Jesus was never the one who wanted the credit, and He provided the biggest act of service that we could ever ask for: dying on the Cross for us.
What does the school year them, “Greatest of These is Love,” mean to you and how have you incorporated in your day-to-day life this year?
The school year theme, “Greatest of These is Love” has been a reoccurring theme in my daily life. This year has presented so many challenges, and I think what everyone needs to do this year is to love each other a little harder. This theme has helped me focus on what is important over anything else: loving others.
