Melanie Pearce – Senior Spotlight

At what grade level did you start at The First Academy?

I have been going to TFA since kindergarten.

What were the reasons you or your parents chose The First Academy?

My parents were looking for a private school education for my sister and me that shared their Christian values, had passionate teachers, and created a community of learning.

Are you involved in extracurricular activities? If so, what are they and have you received awards in these activities? (These can be affiliated with TFA or outside of school)

I am the National Honor Society President, play on the varsity volleyball team, and volunteer at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

Which colleges have you applied to and which ones have you been accepted to thus far? (Please include if you have made a decision to attend a certain college next year)

So far, I have applied to the University of Florida, University of Virginia, and University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

What do you plan to study in college and what are your long-term career goals?

I am planning on earning a degree in biology and continuing on to medical school.

Have you received any college scholarships? If so, which ones? (Or, which ones are you currently nominated for)

I have qualified for the highest level of Bright Futures.

Who is/are your favorite TFA teacher(s), and why? (Teachers can be K4-12)

Some of my favorite teachers have been Mr. Harrison, Mrs. Oswald, and Ms. Damron. They all were so excited about their subjects and always made their class fun and exciting. I loved having all of them as teachers, and they helped me grow a passion for their respective subjects: calculus, biology, and American history.

How has TFA made a difference in, or impacted your life?

Through TFA, I have been able to form close relationships with teachers and peers, become involved in several clubs and organizations, and form a foundation for my faith while earning an excellent education.

How do you feel that The First Academy has prepared you for life after graduation?

I feel ready to go to college and beyond with the skills and lessons I learned while at TFA. I am able to understand how my views relate to the world and share my beliefs with other individuals. TFA has given me a great moral compass with which to lead my life.

What does it mean to you to be a The First Academy alumni?

Being a TFA alumnus means to be part of a close-knit family. I will be connected to a group of talented individuals with different talents and perspectives. I am excited to see what the students in the Class of 2018 go on to accomplish. 🙂
