Hebrews chapter 11 celebrates the faith of courageous men and women like Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Samuel, Sarah, and others who suffered for the sake of the Gospel. In verse 38, the author of Hebrews soberly concludes, “the world was not worthy of them.” In other words, there are men and women who have walked the earth with such courage and deep faith that the world simply did not deserve them.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. now rests among these faithful saints of whom the world was not worthy. His vision of Jesus and the Kingdom of God led Dr. King to oppose the vicious racism that has persisted in our country. April 4th, 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s tragic death in Memphis, Tennessee. We didn’t deserve this great man, but the Lord was gracious and gave him to all of us for a time.
