At what grade level did you start at The First Academy?

9th grade.

What were the reasons you or your parents chose The First Academy?

It’s a good Christian school where students can learn about God and participate in great athletic and art programs. TFA also provides a safe learning environment for the students.

Are you involved in extracurricular activities? If so, what are they and have you received awards in these activities? (These can be affiliated with TFA or outside of school)

I was involved in the varsity marching & concert band from grade nine to eleven. I received two superior ratings from playing my solos at Districts and two excellent ratings at State. I also received most improved player of the year during sophomore year.

Which colleges have you applied to and which ones have you be accepted to thus far? (Please include if you have made a decision to attend a certain college next year)

I applied to several, Brown University, New York University, Hamilton College, University of Michigan and the University of Florida. I got accepted to the University of Florida, but I haven’t heard back from the other colleges yet.

What do you plan to study in college and what are your long-term career goals?

I plan to study English in college and my long-term career goals would be becoming a writer or a journalist.

Have you received any college scholarships? If so, which ones? (Or, which ones are you currently nominated for)

As an international student, I cannot apply to bright future or some of the other scholarships.

Who is/are your favorite TFA teacher(s), and why? (Teachers can be K4-12)

Dr. Holter is my favorite teacher. She teaches me how to analyze British literature closely and discover the allusions and symbolism hidden in the texts. Her class is very fun and intellectually engaging.

How has TFA made a difference in, or impacted your life?

TFA introduced me to the Gospels, giving me the opportunity to learn about God. I came to understand more about religion, sin, and salvation. TFA’s amazing faculty also made me feel home.

How do you feel that The First Academy has prepared you for life after graduation?

I think writing research papers and Senior Thesis prepare me for college. Those projects encourage us to research and construct an argument from the information that we find. They also exercise our writing and analytical skills.

What does it mean to you to be a The First Academy alumni?

It means that I’m walking under the eyes of God. Wherever I go, what TFA has taught and influenced me will follow me throughout my life.
