An eleventh grader at The First Academy, Emma was born in Concord, Massachusetts, lived in China during her elementary years, and started schooling at The First Academy for high school. She’s had the privilege of building a solid hybrid cultural background and brings a tremendous worldview to our school. Her parents describe Emma as honest, self-disciplined, and committed to her goals. They explain that even with her extremely demanding academic and athletic schedule, she handles everything with ease.

Emma decided to GO HYBRID in order to spend more time on the golf course and it’s working out great. For Emma to get the most out of her day, she takes courses on campus in the morning and leaves before lunch to get out on the greens. Emma tells me academic study and golfing are equally important to her student life. Academic studies give her fundamental knowledge and she enjoys learning while golfing makes her student life fantastic, accompanied with sadness and joy, defeats and success, tears and laughter!

She is so excited the hybrid alternative The Virtual Academy offers fits her life perfectly. Emma says “the day school lets me make friends and meet teachers frequently, while the virtual courses provide me the flexibility to study more efficiently according to my schedule, especially when I have to attend golf tournaments. The Virtual Academy is also a good chance for me to learn how to manage my time optimally and set my own pace of study and extracurricular activities. I love ‘going hybrid’ and I will benefit from it.”

Lining the Put

Emma’s golf coach and teacher tell me she is an important member of the TFA golf team and her dedication carries over to the classroom. He’s excited to watch her grow as both a student and an athlete. He explains she has excellent time management, a tireless work ethic, and she sets her goals high. All of these qualities will help her to be successful and make her a joy to coach. He says “her future is very bright”
