Hybrid Home+School (formerly The Classical School)

A program designed for home school families from kindergarten to 12th grade.

Welcome to The First Academy | Hybrid Home+School!

The Hybrid Home+School (formerly The Classical School) is a division of The First Academy, a well-respected conventional Christian school that has been serving Orlando since 1987.

The Hybrid Home+School, founded in 2000, is a program designed for home school families and offers classes from kindergarten through grade 12. It offers academic classes that center on critical thinking skills within a Christian context. Athletic opportunities are available in most sports through The First Academy’s Athletics Department.

The Hybrid program is designed for students (K-12th Grade) to receive instruction on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays in a traditional classroom setting. The instruction is parent-led the other three days with content provided by the Hybrid Home+School. HHS students receive standardized testing, and the ability to participate in selected TFA sports and activities.

Hybrid Home+School students follow a rigorous, Christ-centered curriculum for every grade level, from early reading and foundational math in the lower grades to advanced sciences, literature, and electives in high school.

Our approach includes:

  • Trusted curriculum resources such as Bob Jones University Press and the Institute for Excellence in Writing that build strong grammar, structure, and composition skills
  • Biblical worldview integrated across all lessons so students learn to see every subject through the lens of faith
  • Same Senior Thesis requirement as TFA’s five-day program, providing a unified capstone experience
  • Standardized testing to monitor progress and ensure students meet academic benchmarks
  • College-style scheduling that teaches time management, accountability, and self-discipline

Hybrid Home+School students can take part in the same athletics, arts, and campus events that make TFA such a vibrant community. Families choose the level of participation that fits their schedule and interests, from joining a sports team to attending a chapel service or school-wide celebration.

Opportunities include:

  • Athletics in lower, middle, and upper school through TFA’s award-winning programs
  • Fine arts and clubs such as ballet, musical theatre, orchestral strings, ceramics, chess, and Lego robotics
  • Field trips and service projects that connect classroom learning with real-world experiences
  • Campus traditions like the Father-Daughter Dance, pep rallies, and All-School Chapel
