Visual Arts Mission

“But whoever lives by the truth, comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God,” – John 3:21.

Believing that God puts His creative nature in each of us, TFA’s Upper School Visual Arts Program aims to develop and equip young people to visually impact the community and the world with the foundational truth that God is our Creator. We are created to be companions to God. To accomplish this and to bring His light to a world darkened by sin, we must live every moment of our lives by truth, as an example to others. He equips each of us in unique ways to accomplish this purpose. This does not always win us popularity, but God is the only one we should truly strive to please.

Because God created all things, His Truth should be our focus. Though the Visual Arts world sends a very different message, ours as believers should reflect His Truths and bring glory to Him as the Master Artist. All aspects of the Fine Arts are an expression of our internal state of being. God’s word teaches us to overcome the darkness and stay in the light. We strive to ensure that our artistic expressions exhibit this wisdom.

We are dedicated to God’s Word and Truth and incorporate these values through creative ventures in Art Foundations, 2-D design, 3-D Design, Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, and Ceramics. TFA also offers all AP Visual Arts courses: AP Studio 2D and 3D, AP Studio Drawing, and AP Art History. Students explore a variety of art media and thematic content while developing skills in visual memory and higher-order thinking that effectively transfer to core academic areas.

National Art Honor Society

TFA’s chapter of the National Art Honor Society recognizes students with exceptional artistic ability, service to others, and exemplary character. It is open to students grades 10-12 who qualify for membership with 3 semesters of a visual art course obtaining a 95 or above average. Every year, NAHS members choose a major service project, using their talents to inspire and extend Christ’s love to others through community service such as the ‘Windermere Christmas Mural’, sponsored by Vintage Realty, and the ‘Wings’ Mural, sponsored by the Windermere Public Library, The Pregnancy Center at First Orlando, among others in the community.

Award-Winning Program

TFA is College Prep in Visual Art! Students participate in competitive exhibits and have won numerous awards through the Downtown Rotary Street Painting Festival, Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, Windermere Rotary Art Festival, and Florida Art Educators and National Art Educators Virtual Exhibits. TFA is represented in the Capital with a student’s work through the United States Congressional Art Competition, and has earned similar acknowledgments in other Congressional offices. Students have received over a million dollars in scholarships, and attend Art Colleges all over the world for careers in Visual Art.

But what is the vision and purpose for the Visual Art program at The First Academy? ……To share Christ!
