A NOTE FROM MRS. JACKSON

It’s February and Love is our biblical character trait for the month (how appropriate).    We will define love as “choosing to give someone your time and attention, no matter what.”

Jesus replied, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.’ This is the first and most important commandment. And the second is like it. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’
Matthew 22: 37‐39

This week, one of my morning devotions had me in the book of Luke reading the story of the Good Samaritan.   This is such a perfect example of showing the love that we define:  choosing to give someone your time and attention, no matter what.  In this parable, a Jewish man is attacked by robbers and left for dead by the side of the road.    He is passed by both a priest and a Levite who make a point to pass him on the opposite side of the road. They go out of their way to not be near him.    A Samaritan man passes by the injured man and despite the fact that there was great strife between Jews and Samaritans in this time period, he chose to not only tend to the injured man’s immediate needs, but he also took him to an inn and paid for him to stay.     There were so many reasons the Samaritan could have used to look the other way but he chose to show love for the injured man.  What a great example of love!  Check out the parable if you have not read it in awhile HERE.

RECOGNITION

100th Day of School in Kindergarten

It is winter time in school which means time for one of our favorite traditions! K-Prep, TK, and Kindergarten celebrated the 100th Day of School with a flurry of activity. Kindergarteners enjoyed a dress-up day and came to school looking like they were 100 years old. Students engaged in many math-related activities giving them a chance to fine-tune their counting skills.During January, to help us count our way to 100, families participated in our annual service project to help the First Baptist Church of Orlando’s Center for Pregnancy. Kindergarten collected over 500 cans to fill shelves at the center. K-Prep and TK donated countless baby care items like diapers, wipes, and formula. Participating in the collection and delivery of the items allowed our young students to practice mission-mindedness as they put Service before Self. They offered sweet prayers for the families that will receive their gifts.

KPrep Service Project

KPrep students demonstrated Service Before Self on Friday.  We delivered wagonloads of donated items to the FBC Pregnancy Center.  We saw where babies and mothers come to get items they really need.  We learned that we can be the hands and feet of Jesus and help friends with needs.

K4 In-House Field Trip with Gatorland

K4 had an in-school field trip from Gatorland.  The representative brought many animals in to reinforce our Unit of Study Amazing Animals.  We are learning about all the wonderful creatures God made.

REMINDERS

Morning Dropoff-7:30AM

This is just a friendly reminder that students may be dropped off beginning at 7:30AM.  If you arrive to school prior to that time, we request that students remain with their parents until 7:30AM.  The library and the gym are open at that time.  Student supervision does not begin until that time.

AR HomeConnect

Over the summer, we had an update to our Renaissance Learning program that we use for Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, and STAR Testing.  Many parents like to receive email updates when their children take Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math tests.  You can set your preferences using Renaissance Learning HomeConnect.  If you had this set up previously, you will need to complete the process again.

Library Hours

The Boyd Moline Library will be open until 4:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for the remainder of the school year.  Students must still be accompanied by parents or guardians in the library after school.  Accelerated Reader testing will be available until 4:15pm and book checkout until 4:20pm.  It will close at 3:30pm on Friday and at 2:40pm on Wednesdays.

The TFA Calendar is a wonderful way to find the dates of upcoming events. Access our web-based calendar anytime. We recommend that you subscribe to all relevant calendars so you can keep up with all of the events going on around the school.
